F.A.Q

New Students:

  • We recommend every new student to book an introductory evaluation with us prior to hopping into a class. This is for your benefit! This is a 50 minute private session designed to help you get familiar with the new equipment, walk you through the basics, and set some goals for you to work towards! Call or text the studio at 619-213-2181 to book your appointment.

If you would like to skip the private evaluation and test drive a class, you can start your class experience with our First time Class Trio and take your first 3 classes for $30 by clicking here.

We recommend starting out with our “Reformer Form/Foundations” class or any of our “Form” classes if you are brand new to Pilates.

For more information, visit our “first time” page!

  • Once you have created your account with us through Momence, signing up is easy! Our live class schedule will allow you to sign up for open classes with your account. You can also download the Momence app and manage your account with us there. Once you purchase the membership or bundle you want, those class credits will be used to book your classes! Please reach us at the studio if you run into any trouble (619-213-2181)

  • Yes! Pilates can be modified for any fitness level. We do recommend that new students begin with a private evaluation session to work with one of our instructors. They will help you get familiar with the equipment, pilates positions, and help you properly modify for your fitness level. Call or text the studio at 619-213-2181 to book your private session.

If you are wanting to hop into a class right away, our “Reformer Form/Foundations” classes are a great place to start. Here you will learn the basics of the apparatus, proper positioning and foundational movements. Each student is given the option to use lighter resistances, or modify exercises to be comfortable and appropriate.

  • Comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely! We recommend avoiding excessively baggy clothing as it can get caught in the reformer. Tie long hair up and make sure no hair is hanging loose while on the reformer, as it can get snagged and it is very uncomfortable!

Full-foot grip socks are required for both safety and sanitary reasons. We sell them in the studio, but you are welcome to bring your own.

  • Definitely not! In fact, Pilates was devised by a man names Joseph Pilates. All of our classes are co-ed.

  • The focus of Pilates is to improve strength, range of motion and control. You will enhance cognitive awareness of your body, improve pain symptoms, and prevent injuries.

With regular committed Pilates workouts you can expect to:

    Improve strength, flexibility and balance

Challenge your entire body as the cohesive system that it is

Engage the mind and enhance body awareness

Condition efficient patterns of movement making the body less prone to injury

Reduce stress, relieve tension, boost energy and sleep better!

Create a stronger, more flexible spine

Promote recovery from strain or injury

    Increase joint range of motion

    Improve circulation

    Heighten neuromuscular coordination

Offer relief from back pain and joint stress

Correct over-training of muscle groups which can lead to stress and injury

    Enhance mobility, agility and stamina

Compliment sports training and develop functional fitness for daily life activity

Improve the way your body looks and feels

    Feel happier!

    *So basically, everything :)

  • There are typically 2 types of Pilates classes offered in a group setting. There is “Mat Pilates” and “Reformer”. The Reformer refers to a particular machine or “apparatus” (as it is referred to in the Pilates world)

When Joseph Pilates invented his method of “contrology”, he developed his work to be performed on a mat, on the floor. But then he began to see how difficult it was to develop the body without “assistance”.

    Enter the Universal Reformer.

The reformer took a person up off the floor, onto a moving carriage that moved through spring resistance. It was invented to effectively allow the arms and legs to “plug into” the core muscles of the back, hips and abdominals and add resistance to not only add challenge but also support for the body.

As we train our bodies to move with resistance, when you take the resistance away, you have a better sustained strength and alignment to move through life. (Much like when a batter practices hitting with a weighted bat, when the weight is taken off, there is more strength and precision in hitting the ball).

Many people feel intimidated seeing this machine! But rest assured that this apparatus was designed to support the body through movement to give you the results you are looking for!

Classes & memberships: PLEASE READ!!

  • When we refer to “members” or “memberships” we are referring to those who have purchased our monthly recurring memberships: 8 per month, 12 per month, 16 per month or 20 per month. These memberships are on an automatic renewal plan and renew every month on the same date that you originally signed up. Members also get the benefit of receiving 1 private session per month at 50% off!

Classes (bundles) that are purchased outside of a monthly membership do not automatically renew and you would purchase more if you choose, when the bundle runs out.

  • Waitlists are available for popular classes and times. Once you purchase the class, you will be added to the waitlist. If the class does not become available, you will not be charged. If an opening becomes available within 12 hours of the class, you will be contacted by text/email to confirm your spot before being charged.

Since we will not automatically add you to a class if a spot opens up INSIDE the 12 hour window, we encourage you to keep an eye out for spots that open up so you can add yourself.

IMPORTANT!! When booking yourself into a waitlist in Momence, you MUST choose “MEMBERSHIP” and not “card” or else your spot will not be held using your membership or bundle credits (and you will have a single class charge). If you do not have a membership or bundle, then you must pay to be on the waitlist.

  • Out of respect for all clients and our small class sizes, we honor a generous but strict 12 hour cancelation period. Classes may be canceled without penalty if they do not fall within the 12 hour window. If you are within 12 hours of your booked class and you need to cancel or do not show, the class will be forfeit.
