First Time F.A.Q.

  • If you are brand new to Pilates, we recommend starting with the “Reformer FORM/Foundations” class. Here you will learn the basics of the apparatus, proper positioning and foundational movements. Be prepared to get a great workout, but at a pace and level that is appropriate for someone new to group reformer classes!

Our classes are “Open classes” which means we teach to all levels within the same class. Our mission is to make sure that each and every student gets an individualized class that is perfect for their level.

  • Go to the class schedule tab on the main menu of this website. Pick the class you want (ideally one of the two we discussed above) from the calendar. You can skip forward to future weeks if you would like to. Once you click on the “book” button, you will be directed to the Momence scheduling site where you will be prompted to create an account. As you go through the prompts, you will be able to use the credits in your account to book your classes!

  • Full-foot grip socks are required for both safety and sanitary reasons. We sell them in the studio, but you are welcome to bring your own.

  • Comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely! We recommend avoiding excessively baggy clothing as it can get caught in the reformer.

If you have long hair, please make sure it is tied up and away for more comfort and safety on the Reformer.

  • Yes, it is normal! First time students always tell us that they are a little scared to try it. However, when they leave they always feel excited and relieved that their experience was fun and comfortable! We do a great job at making sure that each student, regardless of their level, gets the perfect workout. It is our mission to give the best customer service, and give our first-time students a safe, fun and empowering experience!

  • Having a private session before starting classes is not mandatory, but may be helpful. If you have back pain or injuries (old or new), are just getting back to exercise, or just wanting to try something new, then starting with a private lesson is a great way to start!

We offer an introductory 50-minute introductory private session at a great savings! Call or text the studio to schedule your appointment. (619) 213-2181

  • There are typically 2 types of Pilates classes offered in a group setting. There is “Mat Pilates” and “Reformer”. The Reformer refers to a particular machine or “apparatus” (as it is referred to in the Pilates world)

When Joseph Pilates invented his method of “contrology”, he developed his work to be performed on a mat, on the floor. But then he began to see how difficult it was to develop the body without “assistance”.

    Enter the Universal Reformer.

The reformer took a person up off the floor, onto a moving carriage that moved through spring resistance. It was invented to effectively allow the arms and legs to “plug into” the core muscles of the back, hips and abdominals and add resistance to not only add challenge but also support for the body.

As we train our bodies to move with resistance, when you take the resistance away, you have a better sustained strength, balance and body awareness to move through life. (Much like when a batter practices hitting with a weighted bat, when the weight is taken off, there is more strength and precision in hitting the ball).

Many people feel intimidated seeing this machine! But rest assured that this apparatus was designed to support the body through movement to give you the results you are looking for!
